Who is May Bru?

May Bru knows every one!! And everyone knows him. He’s everybody’s Bru.

This one time May Bru got a new job, and he says to his new boss, “Boss, I know everyone in the whole world!” his boss doesn’t believe him, so he says, “no, you do not know everyone in the whole world!” but Bru says, “Yes I do!” so the boss says, “Well, prove it.” Then Bru says “Pick someone… and I know them!”

Well, Bru’s boss thinks for a minute and then comes up with a name. “Tom Selleck! I bet you don’t know Tom Selleck!” Bru says, “Tom Selleck! Tom and I were in boy scouts together when we were kids!” but Bru’s boss says, “No you weren’t!” then Bru says “Yes we were!” so they fly to Hollywood and drive to Tom Selleck’s house. Bru knocks on the door and Tom Selleck answers and Bru goes, “Tom!!!” and Tom goes, “May Bru!!”  And they hug and catch up for 30 minutes and the boss can’t believe it.  But then he thinks to himself that it’s only one person, so he tells Bru and Bru says, “OK, pick someone else!”

This time Bru’s boss has someone in mind. “The president, Bill Clinton! You don’t know bill Clinton!” but Bru says, “Oh yes I do! Bill and I were on debate team together in college!” Bru’s boss says “No you weren’t!” then Bru says “yes we were!” so they fly to Washington where they catch up with the president at a press conference. They work their way through the crowd until Bru gets close enough to catch the presidents eye and waves “Bill!” and the president waves, “May Bru!” and after the press conference, they hug and catch up for 30 minutes and Bru’s boss is stunned – he can’t believe it. But then he thinks, “well, that’s just 2 people in one country – that doesn’t mean he knows everyone in the world!” so he tells Bru and Bru says, “OK, pick someone out of the world spectrum and I know them.”

And Bru’s boss knows just who to pick so he says, “The Pope! You do now know the Pope!” and Bru says, “the Pope! The Pope BAPTIZED me!” and Bru’s boss says, “no, he didn’t!” and Bru says, “Yes he did” so they fly to Rome where the Pope is giving Mass in front of hundreds of thousands of people. They work their way through the crowd – without much luck -  so Bru says “Boss, we’re never gonna get there together through all these people as so I tell you what – I’ll work my way up there and when I do, I’ll give you a sign that shows you I know the Pope!” and he leaves. Well Bru’s boss waits and waits and waits and just when he’s about to give up, he sees the Pope come out onto the balcony and right there beside him is May Bru!

Shortly afterwards, Bru’s boss passes out. Bru comes back and finds his boss passed out and he fans him and says “Boss! Boss! Wake up!” and when his boss comes to, he asks “Boss what happened?” the boss looks at May Bru and says “OK, I can see Tom Selleck. I can see Bill Clinton… hell, I can even take the Pope!

But when somebody standing next to me asks “Who’s that up there with May Bru?” that’s a little more than I can take!

This comes from one of the entries into the Zig Zag magazine for “Who really is May Bru?”

Filth Clothing

Filth Clothing was established in October 2008, founded by four young entrepreneurs, with the intention of providing South African consumers with a quality product made by local designers. Identifying a shortage of competitive South African brands, the focus was to appeal to the segment of the market supporting international designers. The goal therefore was to establish a powerful ready to wear street brand in touch with fashion and quality, which could compete with international brands being imported.

Since its inception in 2008, Filth Clothing developed a cult following of young energetic individuals. With very little advertising or marketing and remaining fairly underground, the brand grew daily.

You can view our  catalogue on our website http://www.filth.co.za or visit our store at 210onlong mall, 210 Long street, Monday – Friday 10am – 6pm and Saturday 10am – 3pm

Imba Yehvu sculptures & Molo art

Imba Yehvu Art Initiative

The Imba Yehvu Art Initiative is about self-made people.. The project focused on the belief that ‘development doesn’t have to be charity’ since the only thing people with an entrepreneurial spirit need is ‘a break’. The aim was to change the quality of art and to create a much better income, living environment and life for struggling artists.

The Imba Yehvu Art Initiative was started in 2002 by CapeTownMagazine.com’s founder and iconic spokesperson ‘Molo’ together with Brilliant Horongwi. It is an interior design story with a big heart and soul. And because of the project Brilliant is now living in a house – has a workshop and an incredible future: A goose-bump creating experience.

The irony of the artwork is that through the recycling and use of the scrap metal of cars it turns a ‘totem’ of western society (a car) into an African piece of interior design. The artist’s method includes beating the parts of metal into outlines of African animals, then welding, re-shaping, grinding and varnishing it to become a representation of African Totems.

210onlong mall, 210 Long street, Cape Town is proud to house these metal sculptures which can be purchased from Cape Town Magazine.com on 021 422 2444 or phone Brilliant himself on 072 315 6322
